The bar at Brasserie Astoria

Sometimes “shall we have a drink?” deserves a proper setting. I’d put the main bar at Brasserie Astoria on your list for an evening when you feel like dressing up a little, meeting someone you’ve been meaning to see and giving the occasion some attention.

Astoria occupies the former cinema on Nybrogatan, and that history is part of its appeal. The main bar is in the lobby, with greenery, classic cocktails, house creations and a selection of dishes from the dining room. I like the idea of starting with a drink somewhere that also gives you the option to eat, without having to settle the whole evening’s itinerary beforehand.

I’d suggest it for a date, a small celebration or a catch-up that deserves more than a hurried coffee. Choose someone you’d happily spend another hour with and leave yourself that hour. If you already know you want dinner, make a table reservation and let the bar be your first stop.
