What does it take for culture to become a genuinely shared public resource?

Biography
Laura Raicovich is a New York-based writer and curator whose work examines art institutions, social movements and the conditions of public culture. A former President and Executive Director of the Queens Museum, she has worked across museums, public art, writing, independent publishing and projects that test alternative models of cultural infrastructure.
Philosophy & approach
Raicovich has consistently investigated the distance between an institution’s stated purpose and the people it actually serves. Her writing and curatorial projects ask what culture can make possible when institutions are willing to examine power, participation, resources and the forms of encounter they support.
Selected work & current practice
She is the author of Culture Strike: Art and Museums in an Age of Protest and At the Lightning Field. At Queens Museum she worked with large-scale exhibitions and public engagement. Her subsequent projects include Protodispatch, founded with Mari Spirito, the Francis Kite Club, the Counterpublic convening CIRCUS OF LIFE and the artist-led jewellery initiative Istria Napoli. She also participates in initiatives concerned with cultural resistance and shared public life.
